We're all spending a lot more time in our homes—so why not enjoy it? While you may not have the budget for a full remodel, making a few key upgrades to your space can make your everyday routine a whole lot more enjoyable. And the bonus? Many of these updates won't break the bank, but they will add some luxury to your life.
When deciding which upgrades to prioritize, think about your daily routines, says Liz Goldberg, founder of design firm Carolynleona. "Where do you spend the most time? What rituals matter most to you?" she asks, recommending that you consider the spaces and objects you interact with every day. "Design isn’t just about how something looks—it’s about how it makes you feel while you’re living your life. And daily rituals deserve as much beauty and intention as the bigger design moments, because those are the things you actually live with."
Ready to level up your life? These big-impact home tweaks are some ideal places to start.
Swap out your lighting
Warmer is better when it comes to lighting—and choosing a warmer light temperature (or simply shifting the temperature for a smart bulb) is the way to go, Goldberg says. "We love updating light bulbs throughout the home to a consistent 2700K. Lighting sets the mood of a space, and we think a little glow is always better."

Upgrade your sleep situation
You spend nearly a third of your life in bed, so even small changes here can make a big impact, Goldberg says. Whether you want to invest in an upgraded mattress, like the Violet 16" Plush Euro Top Mattress from Macy's, or simply choose a new bed pillow, you'll find that it definitely pays off. "Sleep is everything. Investing in comfort where you recharge has a ripple effect on your entire day."

Change out your curtains
Curtains are often an overlooked part of home design, but upgrading to a pretty pattern or a luxe velvet can add extra panache without requiring a big upgrade (or all the time and fuss of a repainting job). Opt for window treatments that let you control how much light comes in, especially in the bedroom. Light-blocking curtains can help ensure that you get a good sleep-in on a lazy weekend when you need it.
10 Details You're Probably Overlooking When Decorating a Bedroom—But Really Shouldn't

Use cloth napkins
You probably already have some stashed in a drawer or closet—so let them see the light of day more often. "Use cloth napkins at dinner, even when you’re ordering in," Goldberg says. "It instantly elevates the experience and makes an ordinary Tuesday feel a little more intentional—and it’s more sustainable, too."

Level up your bedside glass of water
Retire that plastic novelty glass or old water bottle for a pretty carafe and glass set or something that really feels special. "It’s a tiny upgrade, but it makes you smile at the end and beginning of each day," Goldberg says.

Switch out your showerhead
This is a relatively simple DIY project that can pay off in spades. Whether you're team rainfall or love a power showerhead, you can turn your daily shower into a little bit of spa-at-home self-care. (P.S. A perfect companion upgrade? Get a luxurious scented body wash or shampoo to bring your favorite scents into your bathing routine.)
