Angelina Jolie cherishes her double mastectomy "scars" as symbols of a life well-lived.
The 50-year-old actress, who underwent the procedure in 2013 due to the BRCA1 gene, shared that she values the scars on her body as they narrate an authentic story of her journey.
In an interview with France Inter, Angelina expressed, "I've always been someone more interested in the scars and the life that people carry.
"I'm not drawn to some perfect idea of a life that has no scars."
The Maleficent star, a mother of six, including twins, reflected that her mastectomy scars will forever serve as a reminder of the choice she made to prioritize her health for the sake of her children.
Angelina also highlighted the importance of proactive health decisions, influenced by her mother's battle with breast cancer.
She shared, "I lost my mom very when I was young. I'm raising my children without a grandmother. [If] you get to the end of your life and you haven't made mistakes, you haven't made a mess, you don't have scars, you haven't lived a full enough life."
In a photoshoot for Time France in December 2025, Angelina revealed her mastectomy scars to raise awareness and connect with women who have undergone similar experiences.
She emphasized the significance of genetic testing and screening for women, advocating for accessible and affordable healthcare options regardless of financial status.
Angelina concluded, "Access to screening and care should not depend on financial resources or where someone lives."
